In list data, very short entries are rarely valid records. They are fragments, single characters, stray separators or truncated values.
Threshold as a quality filter
Setting a minimum length is a crude but effective way to remove entries too short to be meaningful — a keyword of two characters, a description of five.
Choose the threshold from the data
Look at the shortest entries before deciding. The right cut-off depends on what the list contains, and a threshold picked without looking will either miss noise or remove valid short entries.
