This removes everything from the ? onward, leaving the base URL. /products?colour=red&size=9 becomes /products.
Why remove them
Query parameters usually identify a variation of a page rather than a different page. For counting how many distinct pages exist, the parameters are noise.
The immediate effect
A URL list heavy with tracking and filter parameters collapses dramatically. Ten thousand rows frequently become a few hundred genuine pages.
When to keep them
Some parameters do define distinct content — a product ID, a page number, a search term. Strip parameters when they are tracking or filtering, and keep them when they select what the page shows.
