URLs are decided by whoever publishes the page, usually in the last minute before it goes live, usually by accepting whatever the CMS generated from the headline. That is how sites end up with addresses nobody would have chosen.
Decide them in the brief
Generating slugs from the planned titles at briefing time makes the URL a deliberate choice reviewed alongside everything else, rather than a side effect of a headline that changed three times during editing.
Trim the filler
An auto-generated slug from "10 Things You Need to Know About Choosing a CRM in 2026" is long and dated. choosing-a-crm says the same thing, survives next year's refresh, and reads better in a search result.
Leave the year out
Any slug containing a year forces a choice later between an outdated URL and a redirect. Put the year in the title where it can be edited freely, never in the address.
