Reduce to referring domains
Extract domains and deduplicate. Four thousand links routinely collapse to two or three hundred referring domains — and referring domains is the metric that actually correlates with authority.
The distribution is the real story
If ten domains account for three thousand of the four thousand links, the profile is narrow and fragile. Losing one relationship removes a large share of it. A flatter distribution across many domains is more durable, even at a lower total.
What to do with the shape
A narrow profile means outreach should prioritise new domains over more links from existing ones. A flat profile with weak individual domains suggests the opposite. The raw link count supports neither conclusion.
